Gary J. Passama, president and CEO of NorthBay Healthcare, is
leaving as head of the Solano County-based health care provider,
the group announced this morning.
“These have been the best 35 years of my life,” he told members
of his Board of Directors and employees in a personal email
announcing his retirement. “NorthBay Healthcare is in a good
place, fiscally strong and well positioned to not only tackle the
challenges ahead, but focus on innovative ways to help people get
healthy and stay healthy.” (North Bay Business Journal)
Despite the cost, and risk to mother and baby, the number of
women giving birth by cesarean delivery, or C-section, increased
by 60 percent in the U.S. between 1996 and 2009, and by 2011 it
was the nation’s most common operating room procedure.
With a resurgence of midwives, however, studies show that
C-section rates at hospitals where they are employed are much
lower. (North Bay Business Journal)
