Leaving the homeless patient in the hospital to recuperate is the most expensive location when they are ready for self-care.  The Medical Respite program gives the homeless patient a safe, clean environment for recuperation and provides an ideal situation for linking the individual to entitled benefits. Case workers assist them in obtaining SSI and Medi-Cal, which will be the stepping stone to getting them into permanent housing and ongoing medical care.
